The new year is bringing big changes to MetroFresh. Not only is the original Midtown location getting a facelift, the popular neighborhood eatery is expanding and opening a second location at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Owner Mitchell Anderson kicked off the renovations at the Midtown MetroFresh over the holidays with a large state-of-the-art Italian deli case and cosmetic changes that include new menu boards, tabletops and a more efficient checkout area. He worked with New York restaurant designer Wendy Languilli on the spacious new look, which better accommodates both the MetroFresh staff and clientele.
But not all of the changes were in MetroFresh’s design. Anderson also has updated the 2-year-old breakfast menu with one he’s dubbed the “Rockstar Breakfast.” Named for Executive Chef Bryan “Rockstar” Kraatz, the new menu includes several healthy options, including a scrambled egg white sandwich with spinach and salsa fresca, Rockstar’s breakfast burrito of the day, a breakfast BLT sandwich, eggs and smoked gouda grits, Red River hot cereal, yogurt parfait with fresh fruit and granola, and gluten-free muffins. The Rockstar Breakfast will be available Monday through Friday from 7 to 10 a.m.
Of course, the biggest change to come this year for MetroFresh is its new location at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Construction began last month, and the café is expected to open in early spring. The space will offer both indoor and outdoor dining, and Anderson will take inspiration for its menu from ABG’s edible garden so visitors will be able to taste what they see. Anderson also plans to offer his customers both permanent and seasonal informational materials on food topics ranging from recycling and composting to kale and quinoa.
